Method of running a poker game show that allows individuals or teams of two players each to compete with each other in traditional games of poker while having the ability to verbally discuss strategy without the competing individuals or teams hearing them.
Achieved by isolating each individual or team in a virtual or actual soundproof pod. Teammates within a pod will share the same hands and bankroll.
While verbal banter among the players or teams will be possible and encouraged, players will have the opportunity to enable a sound proof mode in order to discuss their move with their teammate and/or the host.
Teams could be comprised of seasoned players with different or similar playing styles. Alternately an professional player could be teamed with a novice player or a celebrity and advice could be given when in soundproof mode.
The game as described will give the viewer greater insight into the strategies and thought processes of players. In addition different styles of play can be showcased when teammates debate decisions.
To facilitate a visually engaging and well paced game some or all of the following rules and features may be implemented:
- Each pod will have an individual camera pointed at each set of teammates. Teammates will be seated side by side with each facing the camera.
- The viewer will see each pod positioned to form a virtual poker table.
- Flat screen monitors will be positioned in front of the players surrounding the camera pointed at them to allow them to view live feeds of the other players and their actions. The other teams will be shown on each monitor in relative position on the virtual table in to the players viewing the monitors. A separate screen will also show board cards, pot size etc.
- When in soundproof mode each team will also not be viewable by the other teams.
- Players still in hands may only enable soundproof mode when it is their turn to move.
- Players who have folded may also enter soundproof mode and converse amongst themselves. This "peanut gallery" can give their opinions and predictions of the hand being played. Clips from these dialogs may be edited into the final show.
- To faciliate orderly play on each hand one of the two teammates will be designated as having final decision making authority as to how to play each turn. This designation may be decided randomly for each hand and will be knowable by the other players. Any player with this designation may secretly transfer the designation to his or her partner at any time during the hand.
